Beachbody Success Club Trip – Bahamas 2012

Beachbody Success Club Trip - Bahamas 2012
Beachbody Success Club Trip – Bahamas 2012

What is it?

Each year Beachbody rewards its top coaches with a reward trip to celebrate their hard work and dedication for helping others reach their fitness and financial goals.   This year it was at the beautiful Atlantis Resort at Paradise Island, Bahamas.  The resort is absolutely huge and first class.  It has 3 hotels, numerous pools, a casino, water park, dolphins and so many other amenities that I can’t even begin to mention.  Beachbody always goes all out on these trips.   The food they provide is always very healthy and everything is so well organized.

During our 5 day, 4 night stay, we covered a lot of ground.   Since I decided to bring the whole family, I don’t think we missed any of the pools.   My 7 and 10 year old daughters love to swim and needed to check them all out.  We also spent some time at the beach.  The sand was soooo soft and the water soooo blue.   It was like a real life postcard!

Each night was a Beachbody dinner and social gathering.  It was a great opportunity to reconnect with other successful Beachbody coaches from across the country.  Some of whom I’ve already gotten to know and others that I met for the first time.   It’s a different world since the invention of the Internet, YouTube and Facebook.    After interacting with someone for several months and then meeting in person for the first time, it makes it feel like you’ve known them forever.

We also were able to workout with celebrity trainers Tony Horton, Shaun T and Leandro Carvalho on the beach.  It was a surreal experience, especially the yoga session with Tony Horton and the sunrise workout with Shaun T.   We worked out hard and then were treated with Shakeology and fruit afterwards.   Shaun T even had all the kids one up on stage for one of the circuits.   The kids loved it!

I also had a chance to joke around some with Tony Horton.   It may sound even over dramatic but I owe my change in mindset to Tony’s Home fitness program of P90X.   He’s just as goofy and humorous in person as he is in the DVDs.   P90X helped me transform my waistline and then my approach to fitness and health.  Now I help others throughout the United States and Canada do the same.

Another perk that Beachbody offered as a reward on this trip was a photo shoot to highlight our physical transformation.   They brought professional photographers and did an excellent job.

In addition to all the dinners, workouts and pool activity were the planned business sessions.    One of them was a question and answer session with the trainers.  Tony Horton, Shaun T and Leandro Carvalho (creator of Brazil Butt Lift) fielded questions from CEO Carl Daikeler and other Beachbody coaches.   Craig Holiday also packed the room and provided his usual wisdom on life and succeeding with your business.  He is an incredible motivational speaker that helps you move your business forward.

With the massive size of the resort and all the activities and people, it was hard to decide on my favorite part.   If I had to say one thing, it would simple be the plush sand and the ocean.  It didn’t even seem real.  I will definitely make a promise to come back very soon.

Beachbody Success Club Trip – 2013 in Orlando!

It was an incredible experience and one that I will never forget.  Just when I thought things were winding down on the last night’s party, a fireworks display erupted.  It was symbolic of how Beachbody always goes above and beyond everyone’s expectations.  Music was playing and then I capped it off even more by dancing up on stage with my daughters.  Next year’s trip is in Orlando at the Disney’s Yacht Club Resort.    I am already half way there for qualifying.  You can join me on Beachbody’s dime.  Help me end the trend of obesity and others get their health back.  I can show you how.

It’s all in the shoes

Asics Gel Trabuco

My Asics Gel Trabuco

We have all heard the stories of having a good support system and needing a solid foundation before you can build a house.  Why is it that sometimes we don’t think the same when picking out the shoes we wear for our workouts?  I know I am guilty of this and have learned a lot on the importance of having the right shoes for my workouts.

I started P90X a couple years ago and put on the shoes that I had already.  They were Asic Gel Trabucos and I didn’t have a clue what type of shoe they were.

They worked for a while and then I began to have some foot issues, specifically on the balls of both feet.   That is when I started to look at some other options.   I took some advice and went to a runners shoe store where they fit your foot to the shoe.  They had me walk and picked one off the self and I went with it.  Wow, it made a world of difference.    They were a New Balance 760.

Upgrading to the New Balance 760

I still wasn’t completely sure of the technical difference but they felt so much better on my feet.  My soreness quickly went away.  I demoted the Gels to lawn mowing duty and it’s funny because I could barely wear them for that!

After a while I started to feel some of the same discomfort on my feet.   I knew that I was wearing them way past their “shelf life” so back to the store I went again.   I heard huge prop for the Newton running shoe and had to try it on.  It was very different but meant purely for running and cross training was what I needed.  I ended up going with the Asic Gel Cumulus 13.

My feet thanked me once again.  I continued doing my Insanity and P90X  with them and I was feeling great.

I recently was visiting my sister in Texas and she suggested I try the Inov8.   A much lighter shoe that is great for power jumps and all the other crazy moves I like to do.   I didn’t know what I was missing!  These shoes rock!  It’s funny how much of a difference a little weight and change in support can make such a drastic difference.    I now have used them for several cardio / cross-training workouts and my feet are thanking me for it.   My plan going forward is to wear the Cumulus shoes when running and the Inov8′s for all other workouts.   Can’t wait!  Remember, it’s all in the shoes!

P90X review – What you need to get started

P90X review

P90X is a 90 day program by trainer Tony Horton that targets all muscle groups of your body. It’s includes a mixture of resistance training with cardio and yoga. There are 3 different levels to choose from: Lean, Classic and Doubles. Lean is more of the beginner version, Classic being more of the advanced and Doubles being the VERY advanced version that includes a mix of 2 workouts on some days.  You’ll want to evaluate your fitness level to match it to the appropriate version. You’ll probably get a little quicker results with the Classic version over the Lean but make sure you are ready for it first.

All of the different versions are broken down into 3 different phases, each consisting of 30 days. Phase 1 is the Fat Shredder where your diet will consist of a low intake of carbs. Phase 2 is the Energy Booster and increases the amount of carbs and reduces the amount of protein. Phase 3 or the Endurance Maximizer increases your carbs even more and again reduces the amount of protein. The goal by the last phase is that your carb intake is giving you a maximum amount of energy so you can build muscle after you have cut the fat. Each phase also includes a recovery period on the last week. This allows your body to recover from the tough workouts and get ready for the next phase, all part of the muscle confusion that the program is built upon.

P90X Review What you get:

P90X is definitely a tough exercise program. You need to stay motivated and focused to make it through the 90 days.  PREPARATION is vital in your success.  The nutrition plan is a HUGE part of meeting and exceeding your goals.  I cannot emphasize this enough.  I would say it’s about 60% of it; maybe more.  The decision to start is sometimes the most difficult. Once you ae past that, sit down and get yourself organized before you start day 1. Plan out your meals, have the pull-up bar ready, resistance bands or weights, etc. You will have much better success when you have a set schedule, then all you have to do is follow it to succeed.

Be sure to take your before pictures, record your measurements and take the fit test. Sometimes people don’t want to take the pics because they don’t like what they look like. Why not?  Then you can look back at yourself and see the huge improvements!

Throughout many of the DVD’s Tony makes all kinds of comments to try and keep things interesting and humerous. Sometimes it gets a little dry but I have gotten used to it and found him pretty funny most of the time. I did use headphones and jammed out to my favorite play list most of time as I got more familiar with each DVD.

P90X review – What it includes:

12 DVDs ranging from Plyometrics to Ab Ripper X to X Stretch. There is a wide variety to avoid boredom.

Nutrition plan guide book

“How to Bring it” DVD – walks you through what to expect in the next 90 days.

P90X Fitness Guide – Explains in detail all the differnt moves for each workout.

Calendar to keep you on track.

P90X Review – What do you need to start?

You will need a few things to get going:

1.) Pull up bar - Either one for over a door frame or mount one into the ceiling if open.  An alternate method is to use band and a hook on your ceiling.  For best results, a pull up bar is a necessity.

2.) Resistance bands or dumb bells – I started my first round by using a set of 3 resistance bands than slowly started to accummulate dumb bells.  I like using them much more but the bands come in handy if and when traveling.  Yep, no excuses when traveling!

3.) Chair.  These are used for a few different exercises.  For one of them a bar stool about 36″ high (or a little smaller) is about right for Plyometric’s swing kicks.

4.) Towel – You will need it!

5.) Push up stands – optional but nice to have to help potential wrist injury.

5.) Water – best to mix in a little recovery drink as well, espeically for Plyo!

6.) Yoga mat and / or soft mats.  I have some of those that you can piece together and they work great.  I like the Yoga mat too since it is thinner and doesn’t break apart during the yoga moves.

On top of that you obviously need a TV and DVD player and maybe MP3 player to jam to some music.

The key really is like anything in life that you want to conquer.   Break it down into smaller pieces and take one day at a time, one workout at a time, one meal at a time.  Pretty soon you are looking back and see nice results!  There you have it, my P90X review!
