2013 Beachbody Success Club Trip – Disney World

2013 Beachbody Success Club Trip - Greg Barth and Carl Daikeler2013 Beachbody Success Club Trip – Disney World

Since I started out as a Team Beachbody Coach, I’ve been able to travel to numerous places for “work” – Las Vegas for Summit, Los Angeles, The Bahamas, Dallas, Laguna Beach and just recently, Orlando for the 2013 Success Club Trip.   I never would have imagined I would be presented with the opportunity when I first started P90X.

Like last year, I decided to bring my whole family.   My daughters were especially excited to visit Epcot.

We really started things off with a bang with the opening celebration and pirate themed party.   Great DJ’s for both adults and kids were there to provide entertainment.  The food that Beachbody provides is always great as well.  Yes, we even eat dessert! :-)

I didn’t get a chance to attend much of the business session piece but heard great feedback from the info that was provided.    We were able to hit Animal Kingdom and Epcot on our designated days of theme parks.   We also took part of a day to visit Blizzard Beach and go down some water slides.

As much as I liked them, a full day at a theme park is more exhausting than a Shaun T workout!

Celebrity trainers Leandro Carvalho and Shaun T were there for early morning workouts right in front of Epcot.  We capped it off with a Shakeology breakfast.

That was high energy being able to workout with all my Beachbody peeps and the trainers.   More detail was also released on Shaun T’s new T25 workout program.  It is scheduled to be released in June of 2013 and consist of 25 minute workouts for 5 days a week.

Greg Barth and Beast

Will the real Beast please stand up!

It will be a great workout, especially for those busy professionals.   I had the opportunity to try out of the workouts from T25 and it was touch since it has minimal breaks, but really liked it.

Forming a strong friendship with so many from all over the country and then being able to hang out with them for a weekend is priceless.   It’s the part that makes coaching way more than just about P90X, INSANITY or Shakeology.

One of my favorite memories was  taking my daughter to see France at Epcot.  She is artistic and wants to see Paris.  This was the next best thing until the day that she gets to see the real deal!

It’s tough to identify my favorites but another would definitely be watching the fireworks and light show at Epcot with 3D glasses and seeing Beachbody’s hologram logo images trickle down from the warm Florida sky.

One of the really cool things that Beachbody does at the celebration events is the entertainment they organize for the kids.   At the closing party they had s hula hoop competition for the kids.  It was a huge hit and brought out some incredible talent.

We took some extra time after the long weekend to stay with a friend in Orlando.   We hit the beach, hung out at the pool and I even watched some movies.    I was able to completely unwind and relax.

I even had a few new experiences on this trip.  I tried oysters and alligator tail for the very first time.    They were good!

Traveling does make it more challenging to stay on track with my nutrition and workouts.  Good thing I was able to do the live Shaun T workouts!  After the event I did what I could; jog on one day and a self designed workout the other.   All about balance is my motto.  It will be nice to get back to clean eating!

As I say good-bye to Orlando, I look forward to Las Vegas in June for the Beachbody Summit and next years Caribbean cruise for the 2014 Success Club Trip!

Are you in the fitness community and love to help others?  If so, I am looking for leaders who want to do the same as me and get rewarded along the way.

INSANITY – Fast and Furious Preview

Today was a preview of INSANITY Fast and Furious and ending my week of grab bag type of workouts.  I am in between rounds of Body Beast so I thought I would mix it up.  Wow, that is not an easy workout.  I felt that I gave it my all and was drenched in sweat after!

Rev Abs 4X4 Preview

My first attempt at doing this workout.  Rev Abs with Brett Hoebel’s 4 X 4.  Very little space needed and no weights.  This would be a great one for when traveling!  It was 30 minutes and really tough.  I was sweating pretty good!

Shakeology Taste Test – New Customer Approved Chocolate vs “Old” Shakeology

Shakeology Taste Test Shakeology Taste Test

It’s time to put the old and new side by side and try them both out.   I can hear the deep voice of Michael Buffer introducing both prize fighters…. “Let’s get ready to rummmmble!”  The older “Superfood Formula” and the new “Customer Approved” Chocolate Shakeology are put to the test.

I decided to sample both for myself and blended up both formulas with the exact same ingredients.  I taste tested it and had my wife do the same.  She is known in our house to have the super human taste buds.

The Results of the Shakeology Taste Test

Lisa’s comments on the new Customer Approved Shakeology:

“Not sharp or bitter”

“No after taste”

“…vanilla, almond or almost orange undertones”

Lisa’s comments on the older formula:

“Bitter”

“Sharp after taste”

“Not sweet”

The votes are in and the feedback has been confirmed to coincide with the panel.  Beachbody created a group of 2,500 people to give honest feedback on what they thought of the formula and how it could be improved.  They came up with the new Customer Approved Chocolate Shakeology.   Careful considerations went into improving it in 5 specific areas:  aroma, taste, sweetnesschocolateyness and texture. Go here to read about the specifics of what criteria was used to make the changes.  Want to take the Shakeology taste test for yourself? Message me here.

Les Mills Combat Arrives!

It’s finally here.  I’ve been waiting for several months and now on 12-12-12 it shows up on my doorstep.  What a special day in more ways than one.

It’s always been on my list to add into my Body Beast, Derm Exclusive and Les Mills Combat hybrid that I am doing.  My plan is to sample it and add it into my cardio routine.

Looking forward to testing it out.  From what I’ve seen, it looks off the charts!

Les Mills Pump Review

Les Mills Review

Les Mills Review

Les Mills Pump Review – What is it?

I admit, I am a P90X guy at heart. It’s where I started and found great success.  I also love to mix it up and try new workouts.  Before I started with the Beachbody home workouts, I went to the local YMCA and tried the BODYPUMP classes a few times.   I remember liking it so why not dive in again?   Les Mills Pump is based on the technique known as the “REP EFFECT”.  The REP EFFECT is based on long sets of around 5 minutes with a high amount of reps and lower amount of weight.  It will shed fat at a rapid pace and develop lean muscles.   We also get a flavor of the world since many of the instructors are from places like Norway and New Zealand where it all originated.

What’s included with Les Mills Pump:

7 Les Mills Pump workouts

Fitness Guide

Get Lean Nutrition Guide

Step and Ultimate Cross-Training workouts (Deluxe kit only)

Barbell with safety clips

2 sets of 5 and 10 pound weights

Phase 1 Te Wero The Challenge – Les Mills Pump Review

Phase 1 starts off slow but is intended that way to get you familiar with the different sets and the overall REP EFFECT.    This can be almost too slow for some as they start off but I strongly encourage you to follow the program as it is.    You will be doing the Les Mills Pump Challenge and Flow workouts often during this phase.   By the end of phase 1 you will also be doing the Pump & Burn workout as the reps and total time of the workout increases.

Phase 2 Panoni The Change – Les Mills Pump Review

Phase 2 picks it up even more and starts to add in longer workouts such as Pump and Shred.  It is a 45 minute workout and really gets your heart pumping.   The main focus is on legs, squats, chest, abs and overall body with the clean and press.

Phase 3 Kia Kaha Be Strong – Les Mills Pump Review

As you move into the last phase, you will be feeling stronger and leaner!   You’ll work up all the way to the longest and toughest workouts yet: Pump Extreme and Pump Revolution, both at 55 minutes.    You may not think five minutes is much but when you are in the middle of the set it can feel pretty long.  I did my share of letting out a few screams here and there as I put everything into each rep.

Les Mills Pump Review – Final Thoughts

A very thorough nutrition plan is included with the Les Mills Pump workout program.  It includes a great seven day jump start and even a water bar that really gets you on track.  Some of the meals and recipes include a Classic Veggie Sandwich, Grilled Chicken and Apple Salad, Protein Snack Plate and of course Shakeology.

I highly encourage you to add the advanced workouts.  The off days in the schedule give you the option of walking or other activities.  You can replace those days with the Les Mills Pump Ultimate Cross Training Deluxe packge.   On average the workouts are about 45 minutes.  The first phase starts at about 20-30 minutes and then by phase 3 you will be working out close to 60 minutes.

I dare you to try the Combat workout and not get all wound up and full of energy!  I also bought the workout bench.  I tried to do the chest track without it and it didn’t feel right without knocking my elbows on the floor.  I get a better burn and have better form with the bench.   Since I am also training for my first half marathon, I chose to use the walking and cardio days with my training runs.  I created a schedule for it here.

It’s a great program, especially if you want to lean out.  I used it more an a maintenance program to mix in with my running prep.   I’ll be moving on to mix it up further after the half marathon.  I’ll be doing a hybrid of Body Beast, Les Mills Combat and another surprise.  Check it out here.

Warrior Dash Review

Warrior Dash Review

Warrior Dash Review – 12 obstacles over a 5k course

Several friends of mine participating in the Warrior Dash that was held just outside of Minneapolis in July.   After that event, a group of friends decided to take part in the next Warrior Dash so I figured why not?  I already successfully took on the Tough Mudder in May so I jumped on board.  Today I got the chance to see what it was all about.

Warrior Dash – The Day Has Arrived

The email that I recieved from the Warrior Dash crew suggested to arrive an hour before you scheduled heat time.  We were running until 11:30 so I arrived just about an hour before.   An hour before was about right.  You will need time to soak up the environment, fill out your waiver form, get your big attached and take some pictures.  You don’t want to be rushed before you start your run.    I chugged my Energy and Endurance Formula, checked my bag and headed over to the starting line.

The Obstacles And The Race – Warrior Dash Review

I wasn’t quite sure what to wear since I knew I would probably destroy the clothes I chose for the run.  I ended up going to Old Navy and finding a great NON COTTON sleeveless shirt for $5 and shorts that even matched at Target for $8.    That worked out very well and even cleaned up great so I can wear them again for working out.  For shoes, I went with an old “lawn mower” pair of Asics.   They cleaned up great too, although you can donate your shoes and receive a 20% off coupon from Reebok.

The run consisted of 12 obstacles spread out over a 5k course.   The obstacles were made up of fire, water, mud, barbed wire, crawling, jumping, balance and lots of running.   One of the easiest obstacles was the Road Rage.  It didn’t have any tires to crawl through and just a few cars.   One that may get a few that are afraid of heights would be the Cargo Climb.   It was a fairly steep climb up.  Not bad at all but if you hate heights, it could get you a bit.   I liked the Capsized Catamaran.  It gave me an opportunity to get my first taste of the water!

We ended the run with the Muddy Mayhem, which was shown live up on a huge screen by the stage.   It consisted of more barb wire and crawling under it in pure mud.

Warrior Dash Review – Final Thoughts

There are so many of these races or runs with obstacles now.  They are very popular.   I love it because it’s all about getting together with friends and doing something active rather than just sitting around.    I even met a couple that were celebrating their anniversary by running in the Warrior Dash!  I’ve only done this one and the Tough Mudder.  There are many others and the list seems to continue to grow.   This is the second Warrior Dash that was held in the Minneapolis are this summer.  From what I heard, this one was about ten times easier than the first.   The first consisted of many hills and the temperature was hot and humid.  I ended up with a few scrapes on my legs and knees but overall felt great and had a fun, which is the main goal.
