Focus T25 Review

Shaun T’s new program is HERE!  Yeah!!  I don’t think I’ve heard this much excitement for a program even when comparing it to Tony Horton’s P90X2 or another of Shaun’s programs – INSANITY Asylum.

I’ll break it all down in this blog post.  What is Focus T25?  What equipment is needed for Focus T25?  What is included?  What is the difficulty level?  How do I get started with Focus T25?

Focus T25 Review – What Equipment Is Needed?

That is the cool thing; NO equipment is needed other than an optional floor mat.  I would highly suggest some type of mat at a minimum or a soft but firm floor.   You will  need some lighter weights once you move up to the Gamma phase and for a few of the workouts in the Beta phase.  The maximum amount that you would want to use would be 20 or 25 pounds.  The Gamma phase is not part of the base package and is the 3rd and last phase for Focus T25.  Get your Focus T25 Challenge Pack here.

What’s Included? A Focus T25 Review

Focus T25 has 3 phases:  Alpha, Beta and Gamma.  Each consist of 5 weeks.  Each phase builds upon the previous to challenge you even more.  There is also a modifier in each DVD workout.  If you remember Tania from INSANITY, she walks you through a modifier way to do each move if you need a less intense version of T25 but still want results.   Tania participated in the test group for T25 right after she had a baby and had incredible results; losing 60 pounds!  Well done!

A break down of what DVD workouts are included in each phase:

Alpha – Cardio, Speed 1.0, Total Body Circuit, Ab Intervals, Lower Focus and Stretch

Beta – Core Cardio, Speed 2.0, Rip’t Ciruit, Dynamic Core, Upper Focus and Core Speed.  Core Speed is a bonus workout that is included only when purchased through a Beachbody coach like me :-).

Gamma – Rip’t Up, Speed 3.0, Extreme Circuit, and The Pyramid.

Each workout is only 25 minutes with an option 2-3 minute cool down at the end.  With the time frame of each workout it makes it pretty hard to say I don’t have time to fit it into my schedule today.  Before you talk yourself out of it, you’re done!

There are no breaks in T25.  There are some “active rests” if you call that a break, but you are going the whole time.  The whole idea is to completely FOCUS and push yourself for the full 25 minutes to get the most out of it.  If you are going to workout, you might as well push yourself the whole time and get on with your day!      When you cut your workout time in half for the day, that certainly frees up a lot of extra time for the rest of our busy days.

Should I Become A Beachbody Coach?You’ve sat down and thought to yourself and wondered if you should become a Beachbody Coach.   Maybe you’ve even watched a short video on it.  I’ve been a Beachbody coach for a a while now which has allowed me to easily identify the most common or frequently asked questions (FAQ).  Sometimes the reasons are legit.  Everyone’s goals and circumstances are different.   But many times the reasons are simply fear of the unknown.  It ends up coming down to how much you want change in your life and how much you want to help others.  Not just help others like it sounds cool but actually HELP others and put them first.  This means listening to them and working with them so they can meet THEIR goals!

If you are reading this and considering of becoming a Beachbody coach, you most likely are weighing the options and probably have asked yourself at least one or two of the below questions.

FAQ’s - Should I Become A Beachbody Coach?

1.) Q: I am NOT a salesperson

A:   “I don’t want to sound salesy” or “I don’t want to ask all of my friends to buy something from me” is something I hear often.    The truth is when you are truly helping someone  by putting their best interest on the table, you are doing them a favor.  How can that be construed as “salesy”?  I come from an IT background.  We are known to be disgruntled, quiet and even eccentric.  None of them being classified as a salesman.  But yet I am successful.

Some of the most successful Beachbody coaches are shy and keep to themselves.  They learned how to talk with people and help them by sharing their story and the success of others.   Many don’t even go out to network with prospective coaches and customers and build their business 100% via the internet and social media.   Coaches come from all types of backgrounds.  It’s all about wanting to help others.

2.) Q: It’s too expensive to Become a Beachbody Coach

A: If you are struggling financially, then you NEED this.  Ask yourself what is changing for you and how it will be different in a year.  In today’s economy, many are losing jobs and getting passed up for raises while Beachbody continues to move up by 300% and climbing.

Are you willing to work hard for a couple years to be able to spend the rest of your life with more freedom and time?  I won’t lie, it takes effort to build a business.  That also holds true for any business you start.   Contrary to what it may seem sometimes, successful businesses are NOT built overnight.  Success happens with consistent goal oriented activities.  The same holds true when you become a Beachbody coach.

4.) Q: I don’t know many people

A:  Let me introduce you to something called the internet.   We are not living in a world bound by location anymore.  We have Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, YouTube, Instagram just to name a few social media sites.  It allows us to reach anyone in the world without leaving our home.  We can use our smart phones at any time, anywhere.   The possibilities are endless.  The amount of users on Twitter alone is into the millions if not more.  Become a Beachbody coach and utilize these tools and you will be able to choose your own success.

5.)  Q: I am not in the best shapeBecome a Beachbody Coach  Fitness and Fruit

A:  The truth is everyone is constantly working on a goal.  Those that are in really great shape always have a new challenge in front of them. Even if they have 5% body fat, they may struggle with other things that you may not. You’d be surprised on what people have going on in their life. Everyone has some stuff they are fighting or looking for a solution. Invite those friends to take the journey with you. Accountability is the name of the game. The key is to start. If you wait for the perfect time, it won’t come.

6.) Q: It’s a pyramid scheme

A: Pyramid schemes are illegal.   Beachbody has a A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau.

Wikipedia’s definition:  pyramid scheme is a “non-sustainable business model that involves promising participants payment or services, primarily for enrolling other people into the scheme, rather than supplying any real investment or sale of products or services to the public”.

Gone are the days where you were approached by some slimy guy outside of Target wondering if you would like to join him at a meeting.  Social Media and being a normal person having normal conversations have completely changed the game.

7.) “I live in a remote area.  No one here can spend a dime on their health”

P90X Certification – By now you would need to be living under a rock if you haven’t heard of P90X.  But have you heard you can now get your P90X certification?  Yes, it’s true.  You can now take your fitness and nutrition knowledge of P90X to the next level and offer up that much more guidance and support to your clients.  I had a chance to do just that while in Las Vegas in June.  It was held two days before the annual Beachbody Summit.   What a fun and jam packed two days that was!  Since it was a larger class and Tony Horton was already in town for the Summit, we were able to get some additional hands on training from him and some extra group workouts.  He even did a mini-seminar on staying motivated.  The P90X Certification is broken down into two parts:  the P90X Qualification online course and the P90X Certifcation class.

The P90X Qualification cover 11 chapters of information jam packed with both audio and visual presentations.  It is entirely online and on your own time.  You are quizzed at the end of each chapter.  Once you pass the Qualification, you are ready to move on and take the 2 day P90X Certification class.  You will receive a diploma, eBadge and logo to use on Facebook and your website.

What does the P90X certification cover?

The class covers quite a bit of information over the short two day workshop.  You’ll learn and be tested on everything from bones, muscles, joints, nutrition and how to identify certain moves for your clients and how to help them with proper form.  You will even need to point out where the gluteus maximus and gastrocnemius is!

You will go into detail on the history of P90X, the different phases, supplements, customizing P90X and more.  We even covered a major topic that everyone struggles with from time to time: motivation.

One nugget of information that I found especially helpful was the FAQ’s covered in detail on the P90X program.  I get them a lot and we drilled into them a bit more.  Questions like:

“How long should I stay in each phase?”

“What equipment do I need to start?”

“Do I have to follow the nutrition plan?”

“What is starvation mode?”

These are all very important questions and so common when someone is starting out with the program.

P90X review – What you need to get started

 

P90X review

P90X is a 90 day program by trainer Tony Horton that targets all muscle groups of your body. It’s includes a mixture of resistance training with cardio and yoga. There are 3 different levels to choose from: Lean, Classic and Doubles. Lean is more of the beginner version, Classic being more of the advanced and Doubles being the VERY advanced version that includes a mix of 2 workouts on some days.  You’ll want to evaluate your fitness level to match it to the appropriate version. You’ll probably get a little quicker results with the Classic version over the Lean but make sure you are ready for it first.

All of the different versions are broken down into 3 different phases, each consisting of 30 days. Phase 1 is the Fat Shredder where your diet will consist of a low intake of carbs. Phase 2 is the Energy Booster and increases the amount of carbs and reduces the amount of protein. Phase 3 or the Endurance Maximizer increases your carbs even more and again reduces the amount of protein. The goal by the last phase is that your carb intake is giving you a maximum amount of energy so you can build muscle after you have cut the fat. Each phase also includes a recovery period on the last week. This allows your body to recover from the tough workouts and get ready for the next phase, all part of the muscle confusion that the program is built upon.

P90X Review What you get: 

P90X is definitely a tough exercise program. You need to stay motivated and focused to make it through the 90 days.  PREPARATION is vital in your success.  The nutrition plan is a HUGE part of meeting and exceeding your goals.  I cannot emphasize this enough.  I would say it’s about 60% of it; maybe more.  The decision to start is sometimes the most difficult. Once you ae past that, sit down and get yourself organized before you start day 1. Plan out your meals, have the pull-up bar ready, resistance bands or weights, etc. You will have much better success when you have a set schedule, then all you have to do is follow it to succeed.

Be sure to take your before pictures, record your measurements and take the fit test. Sometimes people don’t want to take the pics because they don’t like what they look like. Why not?  Then you can look back at yourself and see the huge improvements!

Throughout many of the DVD’s Tony makes all kinds of comments to try and keep things interesting and humerous. Sometimes it gets a little dry but I have gotten used to it and found him pretty funny most of the time. I did use headphones and jammed out to my favorite play list most of time as I got more familiar with each DVD.

P90X review – What it includes:

12 DVDs ranging from Plyometrics to Ab Ripper X to X Stretch. There is a wide variety to avoid boredom.

P90X Review – What do you need to start?

You will need a few things to get going:

1.) Pull up bar - Either one for over a door frame or mount one into the ceiling if open.  An alternate method is to use band and a hook on your ceiling.  For best results, a pull up bar is a necessity.

2.) Resistance bands or dumb bells – I started my first round by using a set of 3 resistance bands than slowly started to accummulate dumb bells.  I like using them much more but the bands come in handy if and when traveling.  Yep, no excuses when traveling!

3.) Chair.  These are used for a few different exercises.  For one of them a bar stool about 36″ high (or a little smaller) is about right for Plyometric’s swing kicks.

4.) Towel – You will need it!

5.) Push up stands – optional but nice to have to help potential wrist injury.

5.) Water – best to mix in a little recovery drink as well, espeically for Plyo!

6.) Yoga mat and / or soft mats.  I have some of those that you can piece together and they work great.  I like the Yoga mat too since it is thinner and doesn’t break apart during the yoga moves.

On top of that you obviously need a TV and DVD player and maybe MP3 player to jam to some music.

The key really is like anything in life that you want to conquer.   Break it down into smaller pieces and take one day at a time, one workout at a time, one meal at a time.  Pretty soon you are looking back and see nice results!  There you have it, my P90X review!
